In summer 2026, Google renamed NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook. Tech press covered the change from mid-July, and Google's official help center now uses the new name throughout. The tool moves closer to the Gemini ecosystem, but its principle does not change.

What Gemini Notebook does.
Gemini Notebook is a research assistant that works from your own documents. You create a "notebook", add your sources, and the AI answers your questions based only on them, with in-line citations so you can check every claim.
According to Google's help center, you can add:
- PDFs, websites and YouTube videos;
- audio files;
- Google Docs and Google Slides.
And turn those sources into easier formats: guides, briefings, audio overviews, video overviews, mind maps, reports, flashcards, quizzes, data tables, infographics and presentations. The tool works in more than 80 languages.
That is what sets it apart from a regular chat: it does not answer "from memory", it answers from what you gave it, and shows where each answer comes from.
Free or paid: each plan's limits.
The standard version is free with a Gmail account. Google AI plans (Plus, Pro, Ultra), or some Google Workspace plans, raise the limits. Here are the main ones, checked in the official help center on September 27, 2026:

The ranges in the Ultra column cover the plan's two tiers. Google notes these limits may change. For discovery and occasional use, the free version is plenty.
Four concrete business uses.
Gemini Notebook is especially useful when a team has to absorb a lot of documents and get the gist fast:
- Onboard a new hire. A notebook with your procedures, offer and case studies: the new team member asks questions and gets sourced answers instead of interrupting colleagues at every doubt.
- Answer a tender. The specification, your past answers and your references in one notebook: requirements and reusable material surface faster.
- Prepare a meeting. The prospect's website, publications and your past exchanges, summed up in a briefing or an audio overview to listen to on the way.
- Run market watch. Articles, studies and videos on a topic, turned into a report or a mind map to share the essentials with the team.
Two habits to keep: check the citations before reusing an answer, and do not add sensitive data without checking with your administrator which terms apply to your account.
Gemini Notebook, and then what.
